 Sindy  Identification

1963-1974

1963

Large soft rubber head, hollow body, hard plastic legs that don’t bend, rubbery arms, her hair was styled in a messy type bob and came in three colours, Blonde, Auburn and Brunette. Back of head marked ‘Made in England’. Outfit Weekenders (flat white metal poppers tagged Made in England) consisting of blue, white and red stripy top, Denim Jeans and White lace-up Sneakers.

1965

Still a large soft head (can be squashed)  legs now bend, hair colours Blonde, Auburn, Brunette, back of  head marked ‘made in England’ outfit Weekenders (Flat white metal poppers tagged made in England) these dolls seem to have much nicer facial colouring and are a much prettier doll than the first issue.

1966

These dolls were made from a much better quality vinyl. Hair colours, Blonde, Auburn, Brunette, and Black.  These particular dolls are very pretty and have a high colour face with lovely facial features. Markings are ‘made in Hong Kong’ in small lettering on lower back. Outfit Weekenders (raised metal poppers tagged made in Hong Kong)

during this period there was also a Miniature Sindy produced (Below) often referred to by collectors  as  a ‘pin head’  she is approx one and a half inches smaller than previous issue dolls.. These dolls were made from a hard vinyl,  it is very difficult for collectors to find clothes to fit them. She has a very high face colouring, hard head and huge bouncy curls, legs made from hard plastic which do not bend. Hair colours, dark Blonde (almost golden) Brunette, Auburn, Chestnut. Outfit Weekenders (raised metal poppers tagged made in Hong Kong) markings are ‘made in Hong Kong’ in small lettering on lower back.

1968 / 1969

New Look Sindy, one of the most popular dolls Pedigree produced. Sindy had side Parting shoulder length hair, which came in blonde, auburn and brunette. She was given  real eyelashes, lovely blush, ruby red lips and her body now has a new twisty waist. Outfits (raised metal poppers tagged made in Hong Kong) Fashion Girl, Beach-time Girl, Miss Beautiful and Ice Skater. Markings are ’Made in Hong Kong’ on the back of her head.

1969 walking Sindy

Pedigree produced the first Walking Sindy, She was exactly like the Side Part Sindy but her legs are longer and are made from a very soft bendy rubber and feature discs on the hip joints that allowed her legs to move more freely, Presumably to enable her to walk along as you hold her waist. (Collectors are still trying to figure out how to make her walk?) hair colours Blonde, Auburn, Brunette, Outfits (raised poppers tagged made in Hong Kong) Navy with red spotty Jacket and Skirt Suit, red sleeveless jumper, this doll was also given a free yellow coat dress with matching flowery collar and belt. Markings ‘made in Hong Kong’ on the back of her head.

1970

Another very popular doll amongst collectors is the new Centre-part doll, Sindy had Beautiful shoulder length hair but this time her hair parted down the middle, hair colours Blonde, Auburn and Brunette, Sindy once again was given a twisty waist and real eye lashes. Outfits Weekend revival, Sunshine Girl, New Fashion Girl, Fun Furs, new Miss Sindy, new Midi Look (new large white plastic poppers and made in Hong Kong paper label) markings are either  ‘Made in Hong Kong’ or  ‘Hong Kong’ on the back of the head. Some of these dolls have been found with other bodily markings 033029 between the shoulder blades and 033030 on the lower back.
 

1971

Trendy Girl, is one of the (if not the) most popular and highly sought after dolls amongst collectors today. this doll has centre-parted shoulder length hair, rooted eyelashes and a new style pop off head enabling it to be tilted at any angle. She has high colour facial features and hair colours, dark blonde, light blonde, brunette, ash blonde (almost silver) chestnut,  brunette and Auburn. Underneath her hair you will notice a plastic rim which looks like it should have holes for more hair to go into but for some unknown reason they were made this way.  Mainly found with a twisty waist but some do have a non-twist waist, (referred to as EG dolls by collectors) outfits, Trendy Girl, Day Girl, New Fashion Girl, Fun Furs, Miss Sindy and Midi Look. Twisty waist markings are 033055X on the back of the head, 033029 between the shoulder blades and 033030 on the lower back. Non-twist waist markings 033055X on the back of head, EG 033087 X   between the shoulder blades.

1971

Lovely Lively Sindy  Pedigree produced a completely new body for this Sindy doll, fully pose able as she moves at the head, shoulders, elbows, waist, hips and knees. Lovely Lively Sindy is known to collectors as a ‘gauntlet’ doll, as she has gauntlet type lower arms on a rotating elbow joint. She also has lovely graceful hands with longer fingers, and slimmer legs with new hip joints. Her head is the same as the Trendy Girl Sindy, and she came with the same hair colours. She was first issued in a groovy paisley print hip belted jumpsuit, Hearts Delight jumpsuit or Party Time dress. (new plastic poppers tagged Made in Hong Kong). She is marked 033055X on the back of her head, and either Made in Hong Kong, EG Made in Hong Kong, or just EG across her shoulder blades.

 1974

First Active/Ballerina In 1974, Pedigree produced their first Active/Ballerina, she had a hard head with high facial colouring and a double neck joint, bending arms and legs. She came with riveted shoulders and a three-part ball socket waist to give her greater movement. Hair colours, blonde, brunette, and auburn, her outfit consisted of a white leotard, purple tutu, white tights and white ballet slippers complete with ribbon ties. Markings 033050X on the back of the head and made in Hong Kong on the lower back. It is quite interesting to note that Pedigree seemed to have forgotten to give this doll posing ankles and very quickly decided to release the next issue soon afterwards, this time featuring posing ankles.
